Nelson’s wine tasting returns
The devastating weather events of winter 2025 haven’t dampened the spirits of our region’s internationally acclaimed wineries.
Tickets are now on sale for Nelson’s highly anticipated annual wine tasting event, set to take place on 16 October at the Trafalgar Centre. This marks the second year the popular event will be held at the city center venue, offering attendees a vibrant atmosphere and a chance to explore some of Aotearoa’s most celebrated wines.
Nelson Wine Growers’ Association Chair, Blair Gibbs, says with growing interest in Nelson wines on the world stage, the event is not to be missed by anyone who appreciates good wines.
“Many of our renowned local wineries will be there, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet the makers themselves while you get a taste of what makes our wines so special.”
“Soil, sunshine, rainfall and grape varietals create unique and unforgettable vintages, and our world-class winemakers simply love discussing the nuances of each season’s bounty. While our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are crowd pleasers for very good reason, we love seeing people discover new, unexpected favourites.”
Pairing the wines, guests will enjoy an array of delicious delicacies on grazing tables throughout the evening. From artisan cheeses to regional delights, the event is as much a feast for the senses as it is for the palate.
Nelson’s reputation as a premier wine-producing region stretches back over 150 years, with diverse terroirs across the Waimea Plains, Moutere Hills, and Tasman Coast. Each area boasts its own microclimate, contributing to a stunning variety of wines, including award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and emerging aromatic varieties.
This annual tasting is a highlight on Nelson’s social calendar and an excellent opportunity for connoisseurs and curious newcomers alike to celebrate the region’s rich winemaking heritage.
“After a tough winter season for the Tasman region, our winemakers are looking forward to a positive evening with our community of supporters, celebrating our shared resilience and spirit,” says Blair.
