Stoke Bowling Club member Kirstin Edwards and her Christchurch-based bowling partner Mandy Boyd aren’t getting tired of winning.
Wiping the floor [or the bowling green] in the annual Turf Hotel Stoke Stakes Women’s Pairs decider against Johnsonville representatives on Sunday, with an 18-6 victory.
Tournament committee member Robbie Reed says the women are each $4,000 richer.
“They’re very happy, they’re great mates, and they don’t play as much as they used to now that they’re both young mums, so it’s pretty cool to see them come through and still show their class,” he says.
“They’ve won it three times now out of the last four years, and they won all their games convincingly in the end.”
Of the 10 other local pairs, Jo Edwards and Val Smith, and Katie Scott and Di Potts also made the finals.
Robbie says not only did the stake double this year, Stoke Bowling Club doubled the field size to 32 teams for the tournament, and the quality didn’t go out of play.
