A Nelson tradesperson will represent the region on the national stage after winning a top plumbing competition title.
Thomas Harrison, a certified plumber, gasfitter and licensed drainlayer with Clyne and Bennie 1998 Limited, was crowned winner of the Wellington/Marlborough Young Plumber of the Year regional final.
Thomas, who also competed in the 2025 national final, secured another place at the country's premier competition after completing a series of challenging practical and theory tests designed to replicate real-world job pressures.
The competition involved technical installations, fault-finding and rapid problem-solving challenges.
Thomas has not let dyslexia stand in the way of his success, consistently achieving top marks in his theory examinations.
On the job, he uses artificial intelligence tools to streamline paperwork and quickly access product information.
Thomas will travel to Hamilton on Wednesday, 14 October to compete against New Zealand's top young plumbing talent for the national title.
