Green-fingered locals with captivating gardens are being sought for upcoming school garden trails through spring.
Both Māpua and Brightwater schools are seeking more gardens for their annual fundraisers, providing an opportunity for the community to explore some of the often-hidden gardenscapes in their neighbourhoods.
The Brightwater School Garden Trail is first off the blocks on 17 October and is looking for new residential gardens to showcase alongside returning favourites. This year, there will also be a range of garden-themed stalls at the school, while tickets are being sold for a Waimea Nurseries workshop on fruit trees at its Golden Hills Rd site.
Next up is the Māpua Garden Tour on 21 and 22 November, with organisers seeking another 12 gardens for the self-guided tour. Gardens can be any size, style or stage, showcasing the variety, creativity and personality found throughout the community.
This is the third year for the tour, where participating garden owners open their outdoor spaces for visitors to explore. To keep it fresh and have sufficient gardens to rotate each year, new gardens are needed between Redwood Valley through to Mahana and Tasman.
