Organisers were as excited as a kid on sherbet for Family Whānau Fun Day at Pūtangitangi Greenmeadows Centre, and they had every right to be with more than 500 grinning from ear to ear.
Part of the centre’s nine-day Adventure in Art festival, balloons were sculpted, buckets were drummed, pots and leaves were decorated, emergency service vehicles wooed, and the kiddlywinks and their caregivers boogied in floating bubbles as their sausages digested.
Twisty Twinz from the Motueka Valley wrapped up the free Sunday event with a pirate-themed performance.
Centre manager Gareth Cashin says the day was “fabulous”, not only due to the attendance but the funding from Nelson City Council and CLM.
“We wanted to open the doors and bring the community, and just get them enjoying this wonderful space,” he enthused.
“One family had four generations here together, so that's what it's all about, people and places.”
