The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū is the public art gallery for the Nelson Tasman region and a popular cultural attraction in central Nelson. Located at 208 Bridge Street beside Queens Gardens, The Suter is one of New Zealand’s oldest art galleries, with a history dating back to the late 19th century.
Today, The Suter combines its rich heritage with contemporary art and welcoming spaces for the community. Visitors can explore the gallery, discover locally crafted objects in The Suter Store, enjoy the education space or attend events in the 150-seat theatre. The popular Suter Café provides a relaxing place to meet or enjoy refreshments beside the gardens.
Entry to The Suter Art Gallery is free throughout the year. The gallery and gift shop are open seven days from 9.30am to 4.30pm, while The Suter Café is open daily from 8am to 3pm.
